Stay at an amazing resort
Mauritius is known for being a small island country with an idyllic setting. There, you will find several five-star resorts by the sea, which makes visiting the place very special. It’s no wonder that Mauritius is one of the darling destinations for lovers on their honeymoon, but you know what? Even if this is not your case, it is worth investing in a neat hotel and enjoying Mauritius in style (and a lot of comfort!)
Enjoy a day at Le Morne beach admiring the famous mountain
Le Morne is the postcard of Mauritius. The mountain, which gives the beach its name, is a UNESCO Heritage Site and in the past served as a refuge for many slaves who fled the farms. There, there are about four resorts, but you can enjoy the beach even if you are not staying in one of them (but remember that there is no structure of stalls there, so go equipped, take your picnic and wear sunscreen).
Swim with dolphins
This is an activity that needs to be on the itinerary of anyone traveling to Mauritius. Dolphins are natural inhabitants of the Island and you can easily spot them from several beaches. Many agencies promote deep sea tours to swim with the animals and the experience is indeed very exciting.
The tour leaves early in the morning and lasts all morning. We spend about five minutes actually swimming in the sea with the animals (but I swear it feels like forever), then we give other people the opportunity (Dolswin only allows two people to swim at a time). On the way back, we still spent about half an hour snorkelling in a very beautiful region with many fish.
Snorkelling in Belle Mare
One of the best places for activity is Belle Mare beach. That’s because there the water is very crystalline, increasing (and a lot) the visibility, and it has several corals, which serve as shelter for the animals.
Just with the scuba goggles it is already possible to be enchanted by marine life, you don’t even need an oxygen cylinder. Even in the shallows, the beauty is already indescribable!
Go shopping in the capital, Port Louis
Port Louis is the capital and largest city of Mauritius. Located in the northwest of the island, there you will find an immense variety of bars, restaurants and shops. It’s worth the walk in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset and guarantee some souvenirs of the country.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter if you are single or married, honeymooning or not, Mauritius is an excellent destination for people of all ages. The nature in this country is impressive and you will be able to see some of the best beaches in the pacific.
